Legions of Angels

Last year during our paperwork chase to Eliza, we came to a point where we were dealing with endless broken things.

It got to be comical, really, except for the financial burden right as we were preparing to travel to China!

I shared about it here, here, and again here.

In all reality, man made things on this earth are SO temporary, and everyone deals with broken things at one time or another.

As we are now in our paperwork chase to Tate, it seems our trend is starting up again. It keeps us from being bored, for sure!

I will have to say, though, that it was not comical when the brake line on our farm truck split this past week.

*Thanks, Addie Mae, for braving the ice yesterday to get these photos for me!

It split the day after Grant drove home with it FULL of a heavy load of hay.

On these hills.

And ON the day that he and Kayla were driving home with a load of feed.

On these hills.

Not only were our precious son and daughter in that truck, but also our precious grand pup and even more precious little grand baby due in October.

Grant told me “Mom, there were legions of angels surrounding us.”

Yes, Grant, you are right about that.

Thank you, Lord, for their protection!!

The First Week Of Spring

This first week of spring (that is what the calendar says, right?) has been full of snow, illness, and now some ice.

We woke up this morning to ice covered windows.

And 35 mph wind.

Which shook this old farm house and kept me up most of the night!

012

Our pup took one step outside this morning and slid down the sidewalk.

The skies look ominous today.

016

I have been so thankful this week.

Thankful that even though Eliza was sick, she never got this horrible cough that Chad and Lane have.

Thankful that no one else is sick!

Poor Lane has had a hard week.

Get well soon, little man.

Sweet Kayla has been sick too. But there is a baby to blame for that!!

Have I told you we are OVER THE MOON excited about that fact?!!

Here she is as we cooked dinner one night.

Smells are not so good for her right now.

Things got a little better for her this week, though.

Even though we did get a lot of snow, there was one warmer afternoon that the kiddos played in the hay loft.

I thought Eliza looked so cute in this hat that her Grandma gave her for her birthday!

Our seed order arrived!

Kayla and I had fun planning the garden together early this week.

Having that box is a promise of things to come!

013

School books for this fall started arriving too. Blake and I planned school for the fall on our get-away trip.

Too bad he wasn’t paying attention when I ordered Chad 5th grade workbooks. Why? Cause Chad is finishing 5th grade this year.

Duh.

Our UPS man does not like our farm when we have winter like days either. He stops at the top of the drive, calls us from his cell phone, and someone runs up to get our boxes.

Really!

014

We, meaning my amazing husband and I, have been working hard on paperwork for Eliza’s adoption day!

We are re-finalizing her adoption with a court date of April 7th.

Eliza’s adoption was finalized in China, but this will give us paperwork that is more familiar in the United States….like a birth certificate.

We have spent this week in quiet winter-like ways.

Eliza will sit and listen to books endlessly!

We love books.

She loves to help bake, too!

Licking all the yummyness might have something to do with it.

015

We are still playing lots of games, as well!

Can’t wait till we trade board games for chalk on the sidewalk, swinging on the swings, digging in the dirt, swimming in the pool….

Oh? Did I skip right to summer?

I like to dream big!!

098

Looks like we will have another small taste of spring this week.

The weather bug on my phone says 72 degrees for Wednesday!!

But when you live in Wisconsin, you never hold your breath for spring to arrive.

Happy second week of spring, everyone!!

So Many Words

Eight months home.

Three years old.

But so many words!

You are amazing, Miss Eliza!!

**GREAT NEWS from Eliza’s sedated CMG study of her bladder! The surgery to untether her spinal cord in December has given some improvement to the pressure of her bladder as it fills!! Such an answer to our prayers!! Now it’s time to attempt potty training, with the help of a small dose of medication to keep that pressure where it needs to be. PRAISE, PRAISE!!

Sensory Play

Eliza has come SO far with the sensory issues she deals with…but we still incorporate a lot of sensory play into her day!

001

Addie Mae and Lane made some new play-doh without flour in it. It is sticky, but Lane says he likes it better than the gluten-free flour version we usually make.

005

Did you all know that play-doh has wheat in it?

Yes, gluten is everywhere.

Anywhoo…..

Directing Eliza’s activities has been an important thing for her.

011

She really needs consistency, structure, and a schedule.

007

It gives her the security she needs to help her succeed.

002

It also helps when she is coming apart as we can say “remember? we usually do this next…and then that.”

008

It is best if we do not introduce things into Eliza’s world that we cannot continue or cannot do again.

006

It is heart warming to see how hard she is trying to work through touching something like play-doh!

009

010

We are so proud of you sweet, baby! And we will continue to help you succeed!
