新年快乐 – Xīnnián kuàilè – Happy Chinese New Year!!

Yesterday was Chinese New Year!!

The year of the Rooster!

There are many traditions in China for their New Year celebration.

The symbolic meaning behind most of these traditions are not things that we believe in – but our celebration gives us a great opportunity to explain that and our reasons to the children.

It is a great lesson in teaching them to trust God!

It is important to Blake and I to keep our adopted children’s heritage alive for them in the small ways that we can.

Our two Chinese cherubs were clear excited about our plans to celebrate!!

Last night we had a simple celebration with some simple decorations, a yummy meal, and dessert!

I could not find any red envelopes, so I bought these little red bags and filled them with some candy for the kiddos!

I had some GREAT help in the kitchen getting the meal ready!

We had Mongolian beef and bean thread –

and Chinese honey chicken over rice!

It was SUPER yummy!!

This little man told us “This is the BEST day EVER!”

We also ate with chopsticks, which Tate calls “chap stick!”

Addie Mae made grain-free chocolate cupcakes with white icing for dessert!

The littles turned them into little pandas – by using chocolate chips – before they were served!

They were YUMMY too!

After dinner we listened to some Chinese music! It was really fun!

I have a whole unit planned for school this week to learn more about China, Chinese New Year, and Chinese traditions!

Better late than never!

The kids are really looking forward to it, and so am I!!

Our little celebration could not have gone better!

After the littles were in bed, the rest of us agreed it was SO worth our work to see them enjoy it SO MUCH!!

新年快乐 – Xīnnián kuàilè

Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!!

It was not as good as Chop Chae because the meat wasn’t marinated. I will make Chop Chae next time! You can go to my Pinterest momof7arrows and look at my Chinese New Year Recipes board 😊
