Our Anniversary Get-Away

Last Wednesday afternoon Blake and I bid these kiddos farewell and headed north for our annual anniversary get-away trip!

We talked about going somewhere far and warm, but there is a lot that needs to be finished here at Twin Oaks – so we decided to keep our get-away closer to home.

Blake reserved a suite for us in Eden Prairie just outside the Twin Cities in Minnesota.

It was sunny – but not warm!

There was still quite a bit of snow there!

Once we decided to stay close to home we also decided that this trip needed to be a working trip!

I started the list weeks ago of everything we hoped to accomplish while we were gone.

What a blessing to have this time away where we could focus on each other and things that needed to get done!

The first morning we spent sipping coffee and planning school for this coming fall.

I had some things I wanted to look into with Blake and some other things I had already looked into and wanted Blake’s opinion on.

We have some challenges we need to address with school, and this gave us the opportunity to look into how to solve them!

We always plan school this time of year and use some of our tax return money to buy any school books we will need for fall.

We also had a shopping list that seemed a mile long.

In case you haven’t heard, I do not like to shop!

Our list had everything from clothes for Eliza, ceiling fans, shutters, and furniture for Twin Oaks, to birthday presents for Lane.

We finally found a mirror that fit our downstairs bathroom and our budget!

We also made decisions on the four ceiling fans needed, shutters for the front of the house, furniture for the living room, and a new mattress for the master bedroom.

We walked through IKEA for over two hours on Thursday.

It is a neat store to walk through!

Being in the big city always makes me realize how much I love our tiny country town.

The traffic there was CRAZY!

Bumper to bumper stop and go the whole way down the highway.

Besides all of the shopping, we ate YUMMY food, of course!

I think the smoothies were my favorite!

(look at all that snow in the background!)

It was very fun to cook for just the two of us!

Searching out great little Co-op’s is a fun thing we like to do on trips too!

This one was super duper.

Blake and I also had a book we are reading together, a video series on marriage that we are watching and doing the study guide to, this year’s budget to plan, and precious things to pray about.

We relaxed by watching a movie on two of the evenings too.

It was SO NICE!

Addie Mae and Grant kept the home fires burning while we were gone, and I am sure I do not have to say what a great job they did!

We talked on Skype with them each day – which did my Mama heart SO good!

I start looking forward to Blake and my anniversary trip on the first day of January each year.

It is such a blessed time for us!

We both are committed to working hard to keep our marriage strong – and it DOES take purpose, yes.

We came home on Sunday ready to jump back into life – feeling refreshed and connected!

Next year we will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary, Lord willing, and we are already talking about taking a BIG trip somewhere if we are able.

I am already looking forward to that!!!

Until then, our weekly date night will do – because Blake and I just love being together no matter where we are!

Thank you, honey, for the great get-away and for pouring your heart and soul into the most important things.

Next to Jesus, you are my everything!!

Anniversary trip 2018, you were a complete success!!

Birthday Bowling

We have a goal to purpose to make memories for each of the kiddos birthdays.

For Eliza’s birthday this past Monday, we made a plan to go bowling!

Not just Eliza was excited – we all were!

There is a bowling alley just four minutes up the road from Twin Oaks.

Monday night is family night – which meant great prices and no loud music.

It was perfect!

David, Kayla and the babies met us there.

Clyde was SO excited to bowl!

I think family night bowling four minutes up the road will be something we or just the kiddos do more often!

We had a great time together!

Eliza felt special – which made us happy!

Happy Birthday bowling, Eliza Claire!!

It was such a blessing to celebrate you, sweet baby!!

Happy Birthday, Eliza Claire!!

She is six!

Our sweet baby, Eliza Claire, is six years old!!

The excitement she had for her party was THE BEST.

Our favorite people came to help celebrate our girl – which included our Hannah and our Auntie Gail!

Sticking with tradition, we asked Eliza to pick a meal and a dessert.

She did not hesitate – but by the time she had listed four vegetable side dishes, I stopped her and helped her along just a bit!

Her final decision was easy chicken stew, roasted brussels sprouts, sauteed kale with bacon, rolls, and fruit salad with no bananas.

You got it, sweet baby girl!!

She even got her own big special bowl of fruit salad before I added bananas to the rest!

After all of that yummy food, it was time for gifts!!

I wish I had written down all the cute things Eliza said.

She was SO funny!

Her gifts were a hit!!

Eliza’s favorite gift was from Blake and I – and will be happening tonight!!

All the kiddos are excited about his one!!

Having everyone together just filled my heart to overflowing!

We soon headed back upstairs to sing to Eliza and enjoy her dessert!

She chose chocolate cake waffles, ice cream, strawberries, and whipped cream.

DELICIOUS!!

I think Eliza ate three helpings of strawberries with more whipped cream!!

Eliza’s party was PERFECT.

It was such a joy to bless our sweet baby girl!

It has been such a beautiful journey.

Eliza has come SO, so far.

We know the journey will continue, and we are clear excited to see what the Lord has for Eliza!

The best is yet to come!!

Happy, happy birthday, Eliza Claire!!

WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!

The Good Stuff

There are things that we do here over, and over, and over again – as part of our schedule, part of our routine, or just because we enjoy them.

It’s the good stuff!!

Sometimes I wonder if I should post another photo of us getting our favorite treat (Starbucks), looking through school totes with Blake (again), or hanging out on the floor with our favorite people!

I am a memory keeper.

From way back.

Way back when making scrapbooks was so popular – and I have tons of them to prove that fact.

This is now my way of keeping our memories!

And just like the kiddos love to look at those scrapbooks, they love to look at the blog books too.

Here is another page in our scrapbook!

Addie Mae was my errand helper one Friday when Grant was home, and, yep!

There’s our favorite treat!

The boys and their guitars.

I LOVE hearing those guitars.

Even when I am making breakfast.

Practice happens every where.

I can’t wait to get our furniture!

Boys.

I love them.

A quick stop at River’s place to drop some stuff off got me this smile!

Dropped some grocery another day and got to love on Rivy again!

Clyde and Ellie were napping!

Speaking of those grands – we watched them on Saturday.

It was certainly the best day ever!!

We love their parents too!!

Especially when we have some two-on-two time with them!

Food is a big part of our life.

We like to eat!

And enjoy cooking and baking too!

I use a half hour every Thursday to make our menu plans and a grocery list.

In my journal I wrote a list of goals a while back, and one of them was to try one new recipe a week.

That has been FUN!

But I do get a little side tracked sometimes!

By the yummy recipes we already have!

It got warm enough to grill some turkey veggie burgers!

Snack plates for lunch are easy and delicious.

When you go to the Co-op hungry, you come home with organic beets – and then change up your menu plan to make them.

This was DELISH.

And a new recipe!

Basil sun dried tomato fettuccine anyone?

Addie earns her keep on an hourly basis – and made mint chocolate chip ice cream one night – just because!

The secret ingredient is avocado – and yes I ate two bowls!

We have snacks every Sunday night – and our favorite people join us!

Those are sweet potato bites with loaded guacamole!

Another new recipe – SO good.

We had several bags of coffee with just a tablespoon or two left in them.

I dumped them all together and made cold brew.

It was a hit!

My hubby and I had an anniversary!

29 years!!!!

How I love doing life with this man.

He is my best friend!

Remember my introduction above?

Think on that while you look at these photos of the beauty off our deck!

I think I have posted more of this kind of photo than I can count.

Look what God did though!

It’s never lost on me!

The ice was SO beautiful!

See that clump of trees ahead on the left side of the road in this photo?

That’s Twin Oaks!!

These kiddos still show Blake all of their school work.

One of my favorite things we do.

We have been having our dates on Friday at lunch time now because of the travel time back and forth to town and the weather.

That has changed Friday nights to movie night!

With ice cream, of course!

When Tate and Eliza’s Mama brings home glow-in-the-dark silly putty, she finds them in the dark closet when she goes looking for them!

See the silly putty?

School is happening.

We are enjoying it!

Games.

We play them everyday.

Cause it’s fun!

My morning spot.

ALL TIME FAVORITE THING TO DO.

Once a week the middles and littles and I head to River’s place for lunch and a play date!

THE BEST.

There’s the good stuff!!

The stuff memories are made of!

The blessing of these days is always at the forefront of my mind and heart!

Lord willing, there are many, many things planned that should be happening around here –

so stay tuned for more of the good stuff!!

Have a great Thursday everyone!
