Another Beautiful Saturday

I still have to pinch myself that spring is really here!

I took this photo last Saturday –

And I took this photo this Saturday!!

We started our Saturday nice and slow yesterday morning after an extremely busy week!

Then my crew worked outside! It is not as warm as it was last weekend, and I hear it is supposed to get quite a bit cooler this week.

Since the farm is so quiet with only two horses here, my crew has all kinds of time to do some maintenance around the farm. When we were raising animals, and growing crop, the maintenance would get squeezed in between so many other things!

Earlier this week our neighbor helped us out by clearing and spreading the piles of manure that needed cleaned up. What a blessing it was to get all of that taken care of!

We still have a list of things to work on while we wait for the Lord to bring just the right person to purchase the farm! What peace we have knowing that God is in control!

Hope you all had a beautiful Saturday too!!

Time to Scrapbook

I have been neglecting my little scrapbook here this week!

It has been a busy, busy week – with lots of running around!

I am so grateful to Kayla for her help this week when our schedules here at home did not coordinate!

It has been beautiful weather! So when big sis watched the youngest for me, there were long walks involved!

I am so sorry!! Yes, that is the back of Clyde’s head!

Will this help?!

You are welcome!

Speaking of Kayla’s help, she graded papers one morning and then cleaned up lunch while I got the littles down for their naps. So thankful for your help, Kay! And for that little man you bring with you when you visit us!!

We spent a lot of time outside as time allowed this week! Spring is AMAZING. One afternoon we drank frozen banana chocolate milkshakes on a blanket under the bright blue sky. Amazing I said!!

Chad had a growth check at the orthodontist the week before last.

He didn’t pass that check!

We have started the second phase of orthodontic care for this twelve year old boy. He had his first set of braces when he was nine! Chad inherited my teeth. And my gut. So sorry, Chad! So thankful he has his Dad’s personality!! They are two in a million!!

At least the orthodontist office is a neat place to be. Cause we will be going there more now!

How about some cute snap shots for this little scrapbook of mine? These kiddos are growing up so fast!

I bought this bumbo chair at the second hand store to have at our house for Clyde. Our teeny tiny Tate fits in it just fine too!

Love my little helpers! We had an early date night grocery run last night. It was so nice to have everyone’s help to put all the grocery away!

That warm weather that arrived last weekend was not easy on the littles. That may have to be another post for another time. It sent Tate’s mind back to last August when he arrived home, we believe. He has really, really struggled this week, my poor precious boy! Season changes bring struggles for Eliza also – with clothing, shoes, being outside in the grass and wind. Our sensory girl has struggled a lot this week too. Sweet baby! Tate did not like me being out of his sight – so we hung out together a lot!

I take way too many photos of the views off this ridge we call home – but I will only add one! We were heading to another farm after dinner one night and the sky was just SO beautiful – the blue, the sun, the rain, and the clouds all in one photo!

Hope you all had a great week! Enjoy your Sunday, everyone!

Hanging On Tight!

What an amazing weekend we have had!

I will say, the weather had A LOT to do with that!

Spring is finally here! It has been in the upper 70’s all weekend – amazing!

My photographer has a job now, so you can imagine I am filling in for her in many areas of our life here at home! Taking photos is one of them….and I am forgetting to do it!

This weekend I made sure I took some photos – I took 109! Whoops! I had a lot to choose from!

I did not start taking photos first thing Saturday morning though. Saturday was a farm work day!

The guys were in the shop early and most of the morning getting things up and running! I was on kitchen duty!

Then in the late morning they headed outside to work on the land.

Lane wanted to fly his kite! It was a great day for kite flying. The littles joined him! And then Blake joined them to help them out!

While I was there snapping those photos, I turned and took a photo of the south side of our old rambling farm house. So much I never want to forget! Can you picture how far it is from the kitchen to the master bedroom – one end to the other?!?

006

The kids have been outside all weekend long! Playing hard!

We checked out the herb beds and found lots of things growing already!

Hello chives – you will not last long!

089

Hello parsley – you will not last long either!

Tate came up to me with a piece of sage and said, “Mom, Mom!! Smell this!! It smells like our sausage!” Smart boy, there is sage in our breakfast sausage!

097

I took this photo next – Lane’s kite from yesterday is stuck up in a tree. Bummer!

We could not drag ourselves inside! But soon it was time to say good night to our favorite people!

We came inside the house and Addie Mae said, “Can we just have three Sundays every week?” Great idea, Addie Mae! I agree!!!

Our weekend is over. I am hanging on SUPER DUPER tight right now to every last second the Lord sees fit to give us on our farm. The memories from our time here the last seven years are tucked so deep in my heart that it feels like my heart will burst. We have been SO blessed!!!

Hope you all had a great weekend too!!

Five Tips For Home Schooling

I had the great privilege of writing a guest post for a sweet gal named Hannah, who happens to be Kayla’s good friend and also David and Kayla’s wedding photographer.

FIVE TIPS FOR HOME SCHOOLING

Tip Number One: Take Care of Yourself First

Taking care of you first could have many aspects to it. I am not discouraging you from what you think this looks like in your life. I do want to challenge you, though, if you are a believer and do not have a habit of spending time each and every day with the Lord. This is where taking care of you begins. Reading God’s word, spending time meditating on it, memorizing it, journaling, and having fellowship with Jesus through prayer. It is through this time that everything else in your life will flow. It is during this first and most important part of your day that you will hear the Lord speak to you through His Holy Spirit. He will burden you with how to handle things in your day that you have prayed about. He will give you the strength to be ALL that He calls you to be. I can PROMISE you that this will change your life.

So, what does this look like? For me, it looks like a big comfy recliner, a cup of hot coffee, an hour in the (somewhat) quiet dark house before the youngest are awake, my Bible, and my journal on my lap. First I read scripture. Then I write some verses that I just read, meditate on their significance in my life, and work on memorization. Finally, I write in my journal and pray.

If you need to make a new habit of this in your life, find a way to be accountable. Checking it off a calendar on the fridge, having your husband or a friend hold you accountable – whatever it takes. Then make a new habit. Remember, I promised you that it will change your life!

Other ways to take care of yourself include things that should also be a priority in your life. Going to bed at the same time each night and waking at the same time each day, but deciding how many hours this needs to be for you to feel rested and healthy. Eating healthy whole foods, eating often during the day for energy and stable blood sugar levels, drinking enough water, and exercising several times a week are also good habits that will benefit not only you, but your family as well. When I do not take care of myself, everything else starts to unravel. This takes purpose and determination to start – but once these habits are formed, they become second nature. Make sure you take care of yourself!

Tip Number Two: Structure

This title could also be called “a schedule” or “routines.” Having a predictable rhythm to each day is very important to a peaceful and purposeful home school.
