So Long Summer

We planned to camp out this past weekend to say so long to summer with a bang!

We debated between Saturday night and Sunday night, but finally settled on Sunday night so we would not have to rush out of the tent the next morning to get ready for church.

The weather was cooler during the week last week, but through the weekend it got warmer and warmer.

Warmer was OK!

What we did not plan on was the wind. And I mean WIND.

Usually we camp on the south side of the farm where our fire pit is, the beautiful views are, and the back door into the house is.

We would not have been able to have a fire or keep the tent staked in the ground with how windy it was.

So we set up our camp sight in a little alcove of the house on the north side of the farm, and there was hardly any wind at all!

Addie Mae took this photo from her bedroom window upstairs –

After we got home from church, we all worked in the kitchen together and had a huge spread of yummy summer-like food made lickety split!

The kids were SO excited!! I could hardly get them to eat!

063

059

061

We also had Anaya with us, and she was more excited than the kids! She LOVES being on the farm.

047

There was lots of wrestling going on. Well, because, BOYS.

Eliza was getting cold and asked me to change her clothes. When I told her I would take her inside to change her, she said, “NO! Mama! I don’t want to miss the camping!” Maybe camping needs a pause button?

It was just after dark when Tate and Eliza were saying they were tired, so we headed in the tent first and they fell to sleep pretty quick!

IMG_20160904_205252017

As I lay there with them and listened to the laughter and conversation going on around the fire, my heart was SO full!

073

070

Everyone slept until 7 a.m., which I thought was a miracle! Tate is our early bird, and since we literally were sleeping with the birds, I thought the noise and light would wake him very early!

I decided to make breakfast in the house since our fire was so small because it was in the weber grill, and because there are just so many mouths to feed! Chocolate chip pancakes were the perfect cool morning treat! And coffee, of course!

074

075

079

We hung outside for awhile and let the kiddos play, but a storm was brewing and we needed to get everything inside before the rain came.

080

081

082

The guys put away all the camping stuff while Addie Mae and I got started working in the kitchen! The storm came in the late morning, and wow did it rain!

Big circle days are our favorite days around here – whether the big circle is around the table in the kitchen or around the fire in camping chairs – coming together and spending time in these ways is JUST THE BEST!

So long, summer! You have been good to us!

Adoni Acres

This summer has been full of so much change for us.

Especially when it comes to life on the farm!

089

We do not know when or if the Lord will see fit to allow our farm to sell, but we still knew we could not run our farm business this summer while the big kids were away all day and we were possibly trying to move.

038

There has not been much work on the farm this summer, but we still keep up with the buildings, the land, the horses, cats and dogs!

034

I am feeling SO amazing these days that I think I am scaring my crew! Not only have I been cleaning so many things in our home that I just had not had the health to see for so many months, now my eyes are wide open outside too! Look out, my crew!

So…..this Saturday and yesterday were work days, inside and out!

I agreed with Grant when he said it felt SO good to be outside working on the farm again!

Besides mowing, trimming, weeding, and cleaning up the hay loft, we rented a walk behind mower to take some weeds down in the pasture.

We do not have any of our equipment anymore, and although this was not the easiest or best way to do this job, it was the cheapest. Thanks boys!!

011

012

037

While I was out there getting those photos, I had two boys following me around – and stopping to take a roll down a hill!

013

018

It is hard not to constantly be praising the Lord when you watch Tate roll down a hill or take off running full speed ahead! Unbelievable what our precious boy can do!

020

021

We stopped to swing too. Why not.

004

006

Tate is always bare foot. I am not a bare foot outside kind of gal. Is it something you have to do when you are young to love when you are old? Not sure. But gimme my flip flops! Especially on gravel!

031

032

We had a stretch of dry weather, and there was hay down everywhere we looked!

The hum of tractors constantly going and driving by is one of my favorite things!

001

Yesterday Addie Mae and I got a pretty early start in the kitchen, and had a BIG cooking and baking day!

It was like the good ole days!! And we had to turn on a freezer to hold all that we made!

084

085

086

087

We kept the two littles happy with “a show” for a little while. Tate and Eliza always ask “What about the two littles?!” when we make a plan for a big work day. Too cute! They did help quite a bit too!

083

I am still in denial that summer is really coming to a close.

But it is.

This summer has been different than we had hoped for, but full of blessed moments and days that will be seared in my memory forever.

024

Thank you, Lord, for allowing us another summer with Adoni Acres – our little piece of heaven here on earth!

Friday

Friday.

I don’t know why I say I look forward to Friday, because I really enjoy everyday of the week!

I guess when Fridays roll around, there is a sense of accomplishment to them. Like we finished another week of school. Or we finished projects that were scheduled throughout the week.

I am, by fault sometimes, a checklist kind of person!

Fridays also have that “re-grouping” feel to them. Do you use that word too? Re-group. I say it a lot around here!

Fridays are about getting the house in shape, getting the bare pantry filled again, and connecting with my hubby on date night.

Good stuff!!

We clean house everyday. Littler tasks everyday on our chore chart make cleaning SO MUCH EASIER. This place is HUGE – so any system that makes things easier works for me!

On Fridays we do the bigger cleaning jobs. Like the whole bathroom of each of the three bathrooms, even though toilets get cleaned three times a week, and sinks get wiped out daily. We also do organizational projects that need done. Like this one – deflating all the pool toys!

Yesterday we had an appointment, so I took our brave boy and his sidekick to meet Blake at the hospital and left Addie Mae and the middles to the cleaning.

Tate was not keen on getting this imaging done. I will admit, I was wondering how bad things were going to go.

Before we left he started questioning why he has to see the doctor so much, so my day stopped and I pulled him into my lap to tell him how very, very special he is. How God chose him to be JUST the way he is. How he should consider that a privilege – because it is exactly what God wanted! How God knows EVERY single hair on his head! And how he can use this very special way he was made for good.

Sound like too much to understand for a just turned five year old? Trust me on this one – it is not too much for Tate to understand. He took it all in, but his mood did not lighten very much.

On the way to the hospital, I took a wrong turn and said out loud “Whoops! I wasn’t supposed to go this way!” Eliza piped up from the back seat “OK! Don’t panic everybody! MOM! Turn around at the next street!” Oh, the funny things they say!

We waited for Blake in the lobby, because I am getting very good at that valet parking thing!

IMG_20160902_095141179_HDR

We waited some more to have Tate’s buzzer go off to say it was his turn.

IMG_20160902_101405378_HDR

IMG_20160902_101420982_HDR

Blake took Tate for his imaging, and Eliza and I hung out in the waiting room. Eliza read race car magazines. Like all the adults do in the waiting room.

IMG_20160902_102838347_HDR

Tate did very well, I am happy to say! He fussed once about tape they put on his belly, but otherwise cooperated perfectly! We will not know the results of these films until we see the orthopedic surgeon in Madison closer to the end of September. Last time we saw him, we were pleasantly surprised at Tate’s improvement, and the doctor saying that there is a possibility that Tate could stay just the way he is!! We are praying for that! But we are resting in the Lord’s perfect plan. If that means surgery, I know God will give us the grace we need to get through it.

We were back home by noon, just in time for a quick lunch so my new grocery crew could hit the road!

IMG_20160902_123240281

I LOVE THAT CREW!!

Just a little side note here. I try, many, many times, to take photos of Sadie for you all! But seriously. It is impossible to take photos of a five month old puppy! Here was my best shot I got – after I took that photo of my grocery crew heading out –

IMG_20160902_123344097_HDR

Last night was date night! Blake and I had a list of things we needed to pick up, and Chad earned a date night with us so he was with us too!

Chad is our quick, quick wit – and had me laughing hysterically most of the evening!

IMG_20160902_185518546_HDR

Coffee and snacks was yummy and fun!

IMG_20160902_191839756_HDR

We had a hard time finding some things, (maybe because I could not stand the price of things, ahem!) so it was store after store after store!

At one point this was where I found Chad!

IMG_20160902_211438723

But I found these adorable shoes for this winter on sale! Even though I had to buy the display ones! And only because someone threw away her winter shoes last year JUST so she would not wear them again this year because they were falling apart!

IMG_20160903_142250438_HDR

Once home we stayed up WAY TOO LATE with these two. Cause they are a blast. Everyday kind of blast.

IMG_20160902_231305628

And yes, my hubby bought me a new toaster. Ahh, the simple pleasures! We were having to do a dance to get our old toaster to work! To the garbage it went! Do you all remember the days when you would actually have your toaster repaired? Never mind. Don’t answer that.

Friday. I DO look forward to Friday! Can’t you see why?! Life with this crew is just SO blessed!!!

Hope you all had a great Friday too!!!

Five Weeks In

I cannot, just cannot believe we just finished our fifth week of school!!

AND – it’s September!

We are still having a blast around these parts!

I just love being with my crew and doing school with them!

The littles learned the letter “O” this week.

There were lots of fun things to go along with O!

We read many go along books, one of them about an owl….

013

….and then we made an owl! Using a celery stick to paint feathers with!

001

002

003

004

005

006

007

011

012

014

We painted some “O’s” with a cap. I thought this would be hard for Eliza, as there was potential for her hands to get paint on them. Which they did. She didn’t even blink an eye! Thank you therapy!!

015

016

017

018

We estimated with some O cereal! Gluten-free, of course! They loved this and giggled as they ate them all at the end!

020

We spent a morning learning about an octopus.

Did you know female octopus mate when they are about two years old, go into a den and lay about 200,000 eggs, protect them for six weeks without leaving to eat, and then once the babies hatch the female dies?

I didn’t either!

Everything we read about octopus just shows what an amazing Creator we have!

040

041

042

043

044

We also played a quick, little game of ABC recognition. Tate was seeming to not know what the names of the letters are. But this is not my first day being a teacher – if you know what I mean! So I tested them with cards. If they got the letter name right, they got to keep the card. If they got it wrong, I got to keep the card. Then at the end we would all trade in our cards for chocolate chips! Suddenly, mysteriously, Tate knew his letters. Ahem. Good thing he is so stinkin’ cute!

033

035

036

We started rowing a new book this week too.

It is called Albert.

It is completely adorable. And kept the kiddos mesmerized!

We have so much more to learn from this book – so we will continue to row it next week!

022

023

024

026

Well, there was just a peek into our fifth week of school!!

Minus a whole lot of other normal stuff that happens here everyday!

The weather here has been PERFECT. We have spent a lot of time outside too! I know it won’t be long before it is freezing cold!

Up next – unloading grocery! Addie Mae is working part-time now, and so I have a new grocery crew!!! YAY! She and the middles are on their way back to the farm now. I call her my mini me, but she likes to shop and I do not!

After that – date night! And tonight there is a certain young clone of Blake that gets to join Blake and I on our date because he earned it by memorizing and reciting 30 Bible verses!

Way to go Chad!

Hope you all had a great week too!

Happy LONG weekend, everyone!!
