Eliza’s Day!

One week ago Friday was the three year anniversary of the day that Eliza was placed into our arms!

Eliza was very excited about her special day, and we made plans to celebrate on Monday evening.

It is SO sweet to see how our two little Chinese cherubs have embraced their stories and can openly talk about them with such pride!

Their time in China is a HUGE part of their story, and something we want them to embrace.

We want them to know that every single day of their lives has been a part of God’s perfect plan for them!

They both are having this truth sink deep into their hearts….and it does so much to our hearts to see that happening.

That Friday we watched Eliza’s China videos and the videos of when she first arrived home.

It was such a sweet time!

We spent most of Monday at the hospital with Eliza, but after all her appointments were done I took her to Wal-Mart so she could pick out a gift for Eliza day!

She chose quickly (which really surprised me!).

Sticking with tradition, Eliza chose the meal and the dessert for her special celebration too!

These kiddos choose some of our favorite food!

Baked chicken legs, sautéed kale, fried rice, and fruit salad!

For dessert she wanted chocolate cupcakes with pink icing and strawberries.

She and I stopped to pick up some powdered sugar at the Coop to make the icing, and she said “Not that one, Mommy! I said I want pink!!”

Too cute!

Addie Mae out did herself, of course, because there was a REASON to make cupcakes, after all!

The icing was not only pink, but strawberry flavored.

Eliza must have thanked me two thousand times for her special celebration.

I must have told her two thousand times how very happy I am that she is our daughter – we are her forever – and that she is HOME.

So, so, so loved.

You all, I will NEVER ever forget how I felt that day in China – standing in that steamy hot Civil Affairs office waiting for them to bring Eliza to us.

Never.

It is etched in my heart forever.

Three years.

In a blink.

And she has come SO far.

I can’t wait to see what the next three years bring.

I am sure they will be full of a whole lot more that we are just not worthy of.

Surgery For Eliza

On Monday morning Blake, Eliza and I headed to our local hospital for an appointment for Eliza to have x-rays and see the orthopedic surgeon.

We were expecting surgery to be scheduled during this appointment, but we have learned that medical appointments are very unpredictable – so we went with open minds and prayerful hearts.

Eliza’s x-rays were a breeze.

She is getting used to all of these appointments!

As long as I show her the photos from last time so she remembers what is being done, she is all smiles and very, very calm!

We waited a lllooonnnggg time for the surgeon.

Like two whole episodes of Sesame Street long.

Since we are on the subject of Sesame Street – did you all know that Grover now takes selfies with a smart phone and posts them?

Yep.

The times have changed since the days when I saw that show last.

The doctor finally arrived and we met her for the first time.

The orthopedic doctor Eliza has seen in the past no longer performs surgeries, so we were referred to this doctor instead once we were told Eliza would indeed need surgery.

The doctor did a full exam of Eliza, and then she showed us Eliza’s new films.

We were so blessed to hear that she feels Eliza’s left hip is stable enough to let it be!

Eliza’s right hip needs to be fixed though.

We were so pleased with how much time the doctor spent with us, explaining everything in great detail so we would understand it all.

I did get a smidge emotional when we discussed the body cast that Eliza will have to wear for eight weeks.

It will start at her chest, go over her left leg to her thigh and over her right leg to her ankle.

She will also have a bar in between her legs to hold her hips open.

For eight weeks.

It just seems like too much to ask.

Of Eliza.

And of us.

So glad that we know with all our heart, mind, and soul that Jesus will be with us and will strengthen us for this hard thing that we have to do.

We are thankful that when we explained what was going on in life for us right now, and the plans we have for Septmeber as well, that the doctor would let us push off this surgery until the end of October.

So surgery is scheduled for October 25th here locally at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin…..BUT…..since then I have been working the phone and have made an appointment for Eliza to be seen at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 4th.

She will be seeing the Chief of Staff for Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and be evaluated for his opinion about surgical intervention.

Based on the phone calls I have made, we believe he will also recommend surgery, and will be scheduling Eliza for surgery shortly after that October 4th appointment.

As always, time will tell.

The reason we reached out to Shriners Children’s Hospital is a financial one.

They will see Eliza, take new scans if necessary, do the surgery and then submit it all to our insurance.

They will accept whatever the insurance will pay, and then ask us to pay whatever we can pay of the balance due after insurance, and that is all.

It is humbling to do things this way!

But it will be a huge blessing for us right now.

Back to Monday’s appointment – Eliza was SO strong and brave as she listened to all that is going to happen to her.

She asked great questions – like “Will they let me suck my thumb at this hosibul?”

And, “Can I bring the tablet to play with?”

And, of course, “Will they let me have my lovies and Sophie in the hip operation place?”

Lastly, “Daddy and you will been there all the time, right Mommy?”

Sweet baby.

Yes, yes, and yes. And YES.

Waiting for October will give us time to prepare Eliza, and to prepare our hearts as well.

It will also give us time to storm heaven’s gates with prayers about every single detail.

God cares about the details!

Our biggest prayer will be how to help Eliza cope with all that will be asked of her – because her methods of coping are jumping on a trampoline, spinning in a circle, swinging on a swing, or bouncing on an exercise ball.

None of which she will be allowed to do for months and months and months.

We will also be praying for confidence, wisdom, and strength as we move forward with our plan with Shriners Children’s Hospital.

I know the Lord will show us the way!

We are resting in Jesus.

A Firm Foundation

Late on Sunday afternoon we had a little house blessing party at Twin Oaks!

We wrote scriptures of our choosing all over the sub floors of the upstairs with Sharpie markers.

A sweet adoptive Mama friend of mine had done this when they were building their new home, and I remembered it!

We all thought it would be a great way to lay a firm foundation at Twin Oaks.

It was such a blessed time!

Lane was SO excited about this, and he worked the hardest and the longest – writing scriptures in the bathrooms and bedrooms too!

Tate and Eliza did not want to be left out, so we drew them some picture to color in.

Everyone had their favorite verses!

Of course, this is one of mine!

David, Kayla and the babies joined us too!!

Pretty soon we started tracing all of the kiddos feet and hands onto the sub floor too!

I purposed some specific verses in areas of our new home where I would spend a lot of time.

Like in front of the kitchen sink and stove!

Walking through and looking at everyone’s handwriting and the Word of God covering our floors did my heart SO GOOD.

It is our desire to always, always base our lives on the foundation of God’s word!

Twin Oaks, we pray that Lord will use you greatly in our lives to reach out to love and serve others!

Blessed Progress

It is a controlled whirlwind here, and so far we are feeling energetic, organized, and like things are going very smoothly!

Although my hubby did try to put the toaster away in the fridge Sunday morning, so we are THAT kind of tired.

Ahem.

Hard to believe it has only been two weeks since our offer was accepted on our sweet little new home!

Soon after that offer was accepted, I took the kiddos over to explore and run around their new home.

It was such a sweet, sweet time for us!

Thanks for this photo, Chad!

We are going to have a cement driveway!

And an attached garage!

We also had some trips to Twin Oaks in the evenings for measuring purposes as we figured out the kitchen.

We got to see our first (of many, many, many more, Lord willing!) Twin Oaks SUNSETS!

You have to know by now how I feel about sunrises and sunsets!

A gift from God for sure.

Meanwhile, back at Adoni Acres, we have been packing.

Let me rephrase that.

We have been organizing and purging!

Stuff, stuff, stuff!

Addie and I have been making a great team as we go through everything!

We have sold A LOT, and have been giving away or donating the rest.

And…..IT FEELS SO GOOD.

Our new downsized life is becoming a reality!

All of those shoes were kept though.

Life with many feet!

Packing is way more fun when your boxes are full of this kind of cuteness!

We also whipped this place in the best shape we could for the buyers inspection and appraisal.

We worked hard!

We want to be diligent to do our part to get this across the finish line!

I always have such good helpers!

We have had a variety of weather here, as always in Wisconsin.

Cold days and super hot days!

We are being purposeful to swim when the weather allows, before the pool has to be taken down!

One day was so hot that we had ice cream before we swam.

Yes, it seems that sweet baby on the right has grown a foot this summer!

During the inspection of the farm last week, the kiddos and I headed over to Twin Oaks to prep the upstairs for painting and to hang out.

Our new home has air conditioning!

Such a blessing!!

To keep this whirlwind organized, the girls and I headed for grocery late one night last week.

For some reason, they all think they still need to eat!

These two are a blast to be around, and it made shopping very fun!

Besides all of that, I have met with the sellers cabinet gal, and got all the details finalized for the kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, counters, sinks, and faucets!

Blake and I met with the sellers floor guy and got our floors ordered a.s.a.p., and the upstairs is being laid today as I type this!

We offered to do all of the painting, and the sellers said yes!

So, this weekend, that is pretty much ALL we did!

Team Moschel was this crew on Friday night.

I stayed home and had a special evening with the littles, but the girls kept texting me photos so I could see the progress!

Saturday and Sunday morning, we dropped the littles at their big sis’s place.

David and Kayla committed their whole weekend to helping us!

Not only did they have five little people under five years old to take care of, but they fed us EVERY meal.

I know, I know.

I could not say enough thank yous.

Tate and Eliza had a BALL.

The rest of Team Moschel got after all the painting!

The sellers had already painted some.

The main area was painted grey, and we liked it, so we finished it!

The master bedroom was a bright blue.

We decided to change it to white.

The middle boys also did endless cleaning with two shop vacs.

We got the upstairs done in time for the floors – praise the Lord!

There are two walls that still need built in the basement before we finish painting down there, and then those floors will go in too.

We are mostly back at Adoni Acres this week packing more boxes and deciding what we will need immediately and what can go into the semi that we will park somewhere until the house is more ready for it to be unloaded.

After the inspection was done here at the farm, the buyers have now asked us to close on August 9th.

We will be moving the weekend before – which is coming up FAST!

I better get back to work!

One more photo first!

Just because our sweet baby is TOO cute.

We are beyond humbled at God’s graciousness to us right now.

We are so blessed by all the progress being made!

We have received so many messages from you all about how you are praying for us right now.

Thank you.

Thank you so much for your prayers.

Bless you all!!
