Family Photos 2017

Fall means it is time for our family photos to be taken!

I am so thankful that Kayla purposes this for us each year!

This year, because of all the crazy, crazy, we decided to do these photos at the last minute.

We did not plan outfits like we usually do.

We did not plan a location like we usually do.

We just all walked out the door of Twin Oaks, down the road a little bit, got in a pile and had Hannah take some shots!

And I LOVE them!

Kayla took some shots of each of the kiddos too!

And I LOVE them too!

And I LOVE these kiddos to pieces!!!

Kayla also wanted to take a few of Blake and I.

We seemed to have a problem with this plan though!!

Oh my, Lane Stevan, your joy makes my heart sing!!

The whole photo shoot took about 15 minutes!

A new record!

I have been wanting to put photos on the walls at Twin Oaks.

I think I will add some of these to my list of wants!

Thank you so much Kay for this gift you bless me with each year!

I am so thankful that you capture each season for us, and do it so beautifully!

Clearing The Land

We made a plan to have this past Saturday be an outside work day here at Twin Oaks.

Our first outside work day since we have moved here!

I was VERY excited to see the work beginning on our land!

There were several trees that needed to come down, and several more that needed trimmed.

We made a long debated decision to take down most of the trees at the end of the driveway.

They blocked our view backing out, and the view of us backing out to anyone who was coming down the road.

They were simply just too dangerous!

The day started out rainy, but was supposed to clear off.

The guys started working in the rain.

Here is the view with all of the trees still at the end of the driveway.

It didn’t take long for them to start coming down!

Pretty soon the rain was done, even though the sky stayed pretty dark!

There was one lone tree left to come down.

We have some GREAT neighbors.

One neighbor was going by on his tractor, saw that huge tree down, rallied another neighbor, and they drug the tree down into a ravine with the tractor.

It saved us SO much time!

We had been dragging the rest of the trees and branches to a big pile of already dead debris on the back of our land.

Look how big and open the driveway looks now!

We had neighbors stop and tell us they were thankful we had cut those trees down, because they thought they were so dangerous too.

Even though we cannot see any of them from our home, there are eight houses (some of them farms) past us on our country road.

After getting the big trees by the driveway down, the guys trimmed up some others.

I was working in the kitchen all day, but every time I came out to check on the progress I would see Tate in the middle of the action working as hard as the big boys.

He is an inspiration I tell ya!

After lunch they decided to go after a huge, old dead tree in the front of our land right on the road.

A neighbor saw the guys working on it, and came to our rescue again!

He had a much bigger chain saw, and with his help the tree came down much more quickly.

The kids had a blast watching all the action!

Yes, I made them move before the tree fell!

After the tree was down we studied it to see how old it was!

School coming to life for these kiddos!

There were 115 rings in that stump!

And we have no idea how long it has been dead.

SO cool!

The colors right now are GORGEOUS.

God blesses us SO much!!

He does not have to give us things like this for our pleasure, but He does!!

We have some more plans that we are hoping to finish outside before the snow flies.

I hear there is snow predicted for this coming weekend – so time will tell if we can get the work done or not!

We know that the bulk of the work outside will have to wait until spring.

Just thinking about grading the land, planting grass, building a camp fire pit, finding a spot for our swing set and swimming pool, and planting our gardens makes me giddy!

Lord willing, the land at Twin Oaks will be a beautiful place to gather people together come next summer!

Hey everybody!!

Make some plans to come on over, ok?!!

Back to UW Madison

On Thursday we headed back to UW American Family Children’s Hospital for one more appointment for Tate and Eliza.

I am happy to say that now ALL of the littles check-ups are DONE!

Until March, that is.

Thankfully we did not have too early of a start on Thursday, and the sun was shining bright!

On the way into Madison, we made a stop and did a little shopping.

It got their wiggles out!

This appointment was with urology, and it was at the east clinic instead of the main hospital.

Here is a reminder to myself – do not agree to go to the east clinic anymore – ahem!

It added another 40 minutes to the drive, and it was through the middle of the busy city!

But we made it.

I snapped this photo right as Tate and Eliza sat down to play, and then our names were called a second later.

Here I go again – telling you all how great a team of people we have to help our littles!

The urologist spent a lot of time telling us how Eliza’s upcoming surgery will impact the other medical difficulties that Eliza has.

It is hard to hear words like “medically fragile” and “complex” when a doctor is talking about your child – but I have to say that I am SO grateful that the littles’ doctors do the best they can to teach us all that we should know.

The urologist also gave us her cell phone number so we could reach her if we need her during Eliza’s surgery at Shriners.

We are so blessed!!

Both Tate and Eliza were deemed stable by this doctor too – and that is one of our favorite words!

We ate our lunch out of our cooler in the van and then started the drive back home.

This was the scene in the back seat about two minutes later!

It was a beautiful drive with all of the trees turning colors and the sun shining so bright.

We are grateful to have these check-ups behind us!

Now we are just waiting on the call from Shriners to let us know when Eliza’s surgery will be.

It is taking up a lot of my brain space, so I guess I am hopeful surgery will be soon so we can just get this hard thing behind us!

Until then, I am purposing lots of long baths (with bubbles and toys!) for Eliza, as well as lots of time on her scooter and bike on the driveway.

I also have about a gazillion questions for the poor person who does call us from Shriners….but they did tell me to write them down so I would remember to ask them!

If you all would be willing to pray for our sweet girl and her Mama and Daddy – we would be ever so grateful!

So Many Favorite Things

The last week and this weekend were FULL of SO many of my favorite things!

Such simple, normal things – but you must know by now these are the things I love the most.

Being home.

Schooling the kiddos!

Babysitting the grand babies!

(I know it’s blurry, but I LOVE this photo SO much!)

Sunrises and sunsets!

Spending time with our favorite people.

Cooking, baking, and filling tummies with yummy healthy food!

Cleaning and grocery Fridays!

And my AMAZING crew!!

Date night with the most handsome guy.

And working on making this house our home!

We also have had a few local (and quick!) appointments.

We made a trip to the orthodontist to fix a broken wire.

And this brave and strong girl had three cavities filled – ALL in the same appointment – without even blinking an eye!

The dentist was SO amazed with how Eliza sat with her mouth open for 45 minutes, endured multiple numbing injections, noisy tools, and yucky tasting things – that Eliza brought prizes home for everybody!

AHHHH – its all been SO GOOD!

Nothing like a whirlwind of BIG life things to make all of the simple things be ALL the sweeter.

I am hanging on SUPER tight!!
