Team Ruby

This is Team Ruby!

Yesterday, in the late afternoon, the four of us headed out to go and pick up Addie’s new puppy Ruby Jane.

It was a little over a two hour drive north of us, and a beautiful drive!

Tate slept a bit on the way there.

Ruby’s family was the sweetest family!

They live on a hobby farm and have three small children.

Ruby herself has one sister and two brothers.

One of the brothers was still for sale!

If he had been a girl, we would have bought him too, I just know it!

We spent about an hour visiting with Ruby’s family, and then finally pulled ourselves away for the drive back home.

Ruby is A DOLL!

She is so calm, cuddly, and her colors are SO CUTE!!

She is not fully potty trained, but knows what to do when taken outside.

She did great on the ride home!

Addie will be crate training her, but for right now we are just getting her used to being away from her Mama, brothers, and sister and helping her learn about her new home.

It’s been a fun day having Ruby here!

Welcome to our crazy, Ruby Jane!!!

We already love you SO much!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

It has been another cloudy and very rainy week here in our neck of the woods!

This week the temperatures also dropped quite a bit, and we have been in the 60’s most of the week.

It’s been cozy!

We have been doing a lot of cozy things!

But first, over the weekend, we had some plans.

Of course, Friday night is usually DATE NIGHT!

This past Friday night my date PICKED ME UP at home!

It’s the little things, you all.

Blake just happened to be close by at the end of the day, so he came home and we headed back to town together.

Some coffee, ice cream, and much, much needed conversation made for a great date night.

We had plans for Saturday night too!

But first, we had some summer food from the grill.

I love when my guys are home around meal time to help by grilling!

Once a year Blake gets the opportunity to have free tickets to the races in West Salem.

It’s becoming a tradition for him to take the boys!

This year Tate went along, even though I really thought it would be much too loud for him, even with ear plugs.

He LOVED it!

While the guys were there, us girls went to town to shop for Ruby Jane!

We also walked through Old Navy, since it was right next door to Pets Mart.

Or is it Pet Smart?

Hmmmmm.

Anyway….we got supplies for Ruby and made a tag for her and a new one for Sadie too.

Sunday afternoon the kiddos enjoyed the heat and the swimming pool!

This was the FIRST DAY EVER that our six year olds put their faces under water!

By the end of the afternoon they were swimming under water from one side of the pool to the other!!

I’m not sure you can understand what a huge deal this is for our Tate!

He has been terrified of the pool, and has lived in a life vest AND a pool ring to keep himself upright enough to conquer that fear.

I am so thankful for that little pool this year.

It is just what Tate needed.

We have been keeping up with our summer school schedule this week – including learning a new song!

We sang this song in church last Sunday….I mean everyone else sang this song in church last Sunday while I cried my eyes out through the whole thing….so I thought it would be a great song to learn!

I found Eliza reading aloud from a chapter book one afternoon.

I KNOW.

Soooo……I sat beside her to make sure she was reading it correctly.

Yes, she was.

I. KNOW.

If you are wondering if the first grade teacher of two of the kiddos in this house is scratching her head about her plans for school this fall – well, she is.

I will add here that Eliza’s comprehension skills need some strengthening.

Tate’s comprehension skills are that of a seasoned police detective – because he never misses a thing.

Not one thing.

So, there’s that!

And there is a couple months left before school starts this fall for their first grade teacher to make a plan how to keep Eliza challenged and happy.

This photo says so much.

About my blessed life here!

This is the day Eliza had her dental surgery.

I parked a chair at the end of the bed.

I should have taken a photo of each kiddo that came and sat there that afternoon!

Just to TALK TO ME.

It’s not lost on me how blessed I am!

There hasn’t been many sky photos this week!

I just have one.

Isnt it pretty though?!

This also happened.

I am looking this fourteen year old kiddo directly in the eye.

I am 5 foot 8 inches tall.

I think he will be tall, especially since boys grow so much still in those high school years, but I wonder if Lane will be our tallest?

Chad also wore his Dad’s shoes to church on Sunday.

Good grief.

We can’t keep them little!!

They grow up SO fast!!

One day when I told Eliza that very fact she said, “It’s ok, Mommy! You still have your grand babies, you know!”

Smart girl.

Yes, I do!!

Rain or sunshine, its been a blessed week!

Tomorrow the plan is to pick up Ruby Jane!!!

We are so excited!

We all love, love, love animals and pets, and have missed having Zoe here very much.

Stay tuned, Lord willing, for a post about our sweet new puppy!

I meant to say Addie’s sweet new puppy!

Of course I did!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Send the sunshine our way if you have seen it!!

A Recipe//Chicken Salad

Lately I have been using recipes that are simple and quick.

I also have been having the four youngest kiddos help in the kitchen for every meal!

This recipe is easy, and delicious!

Especially if you are using left-over chicken or already have chicken cooked and in the freezer!

Chicken Salad

meat from a whole chicken, cooked, about 4 – 6 cups shredded
one small to medium onion, chopped in the food processor
5-7 small stalks of celery, chopped in the food processor
1 1/2 to 2 cups of mayonnaise
1 tsp ground mustard
1 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 TBSP Dijon or stone ground mustard
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, optional
1 cup sliced red or green seedless grapes, optional

Chop chicken in the food processor by using the “S” blade and pulsing until you have the consistency you like. Dump into a mixing bowl. Chop onion and celery in food processor using the “S” blade as well. Be careful not to run the food processor too long, or your onions will “milk” and become very watery. Dump onion and celery over chicken in mixing bowl. Use a different bowl to mix together the dressing ingredients – the mayonnaise, ground mustard, salt, pepper, and Dijon mustard. Pour over chicken mixture and mix until thoroughly coated. Sometimes if it looks too dry, I will throw in another spoonful of mayonnaise and mix again. Add the grapes and nuts if you choose.

We make this with and without the grapes and nuts – it is delicious both ways!

Serve on a tortilla wrap, open face toasted piece of bread, or in a leaf of romaine lettuce, which is our favorite way to eat it!

**We have used leftover grilled chicken to make this chicken salad, and it is delicious!

Enjoy!

Father’s Day 2018

There is no one I would rather celebrate than my wonderful husband.

It was a privilege to try to make Sunday special for him!

First, we raced out the door to church.

We were just a smidge behind on Sunday morning….which is not usually like us at all!

Sometimes my goals are just a bit TOO lofty….like fitting in haircuts on a Sunday morning!

Don’t try that.

My crew was looking good though!

Grant did laugh at this photo!

He said it looks like he is holding someone who is already his size!

We planned a meal that we knew Blake would love.

He is a meat and potatoes guy.

Peanut butter and jelly guy.

Don’t mix my foods and don’t let them touch guy.

He will eat everything I make though!

So steak, baked potatoes, green beans, salad and watermelon was our menu.

It was delicious!!

I was too busy catching up with Kayla who had been gone all week to bother taking photos!

Addie got those few above, and I am thankful she also got photos of the beautiful cake she made!

It got rave reviews.

Especially from Clyde!

It was SUCH A GREAT DAY.

SO relaxing, being together, sharing, talking, laughing our heads off, and crying some happy tears too because of all the Lord is doing.

I don’t take one second of life with these guys for granted!

And lookie there!!

Not one photo of Blake!!

Or of David!!

The two father’s we were celebrating!!

Oh boy.

I hope you all enjoyed your Father’s Day celebrations if you had them!!

Happy Father’s Day to my hubby and my son-in-law!!
